Craigie's Farm Deli and Cafe is a very splendid place. The Sinclair's original fruit farmcraigiescafe.jpg diversified into fruit, vegetables and wonderful cafe. Still famous for its range of Jam Kitchen preserves and seasonal pick your own berries but now a year round venue to visit. Its custom-made cafe and shop on the farm is light, spacious and airy with stunning views over the Forth and beyond.

The Sinclairs have developed their berry farm into a major food destination. Still growing berries for consumers, chefs and their own jams and preserves, they now have a great range of local suppliers represented in their shop, including the Buffalo Farm Butchery section. Their cafe is open all day for lattes and cakes, tiffin and teas, or something more substantial from their daily range of home cooked dishes using the best local and seasonal produce - an award-winning combination from a great team.

This delightful herb garden and cafe is on the old site of Damhead near Hillend ski slope on the way to IKEA. It is an idyllic spot, beautifully and harmoniously presented with charming outside spots to dine as well as a few tables inside the main building and the largest greenhouse. There are all sorts of things to catch your eye - from vintage gardening tools to good books, home grown produce and interesting garden themed gifts. The home baking is delicious and over lunchtime they also have a quiche of the day with herb salad served in an eco box. It also is a wonderful herb nursery and they run a range of courses, all set in a lovely 7.5 acres. Fun, fabulous and friendly!

This lovely croft is just what such a place should be! There are a few goats, pigs, and donkeys, hens clucking and bread baking. They grow a remarkable range of vegetables given their location - not for the feint hearted. The winters may be harsh and long but the scenery is dramatic and the air clear. From the farm you can see Orkney and their attractive bothy shop is brimming with their own produce - fruit and vegetables, jams and jellies, eggs and bread...and the list goes on. Local veg boxes delivered. What a gem.

This Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) scheme is a community food growing project on the western edge of Shetland mainland supplying fruit and vegetables to rural shops and some hotels.  Fruit, vegetables and eggs can be bought at the door or vegetable boxes can be ordered. Everyone we spoke to on the islands are so delighted as before they set up, unless you grew your own, fruit and vegetables had to be imported. They are very committed to reducing the carbon footprint and keep the growing as natural as possible using muck and seaweed not chemicals. They grow an incredible variety given their northern latitude!
